The Engineering Living Learning Community (ELLC) is a Texas
A&M University residence hall clustering program for first
year engineering students. This program is specifically designed
to create a community of scholars to help in the transition
to college and the commitment to academic excellence in engineering.
Our students live as well as learn together!
Benefits
of joining the engineering living learning community include:
- Improved GPR
- Enhanced academic and social opportunities
- Improved connection to and interaction with engineering
faculty and other students with common interests
- Greater cohesive peer support system that can serve participants
throughout their academic and professional careers
- Increased retention rates of freshmen in engineering
Recent national studies have emphasized that living learning
communities positively impact overall student success and retention.
As such, participants are provided with the opportunity to attend
monthly seminars that address issues such as social needs, personal
development and faculty research. Upper division engineering
students serve as mentors, tutors and facilitators for the students
participating in the community.
Additional opportunities include interaction with faculty
who teach freshmen engineering courses, on-site offices with
the program coordinator and the ability to learn about a variety
of career paths while networking with the local engineering
community.
Eligibility
Students eligible to live in the community must meet the following
criteria:
Students living in the ELLC were interviewed for a story published
