Business Management Certificate
for Engineering Students

[ List of All Engineering Certificate Programs ]

About the Program - Summer 2008

Graduating engineers from Texas A&M University receive instruction in technical skills. However, their business acumen as related to engineering endeavors is generally lacking. The Business Management Certificate addresses this need. Recognized by the College of Engineering, it is a highly intensive program intended to teach vital business competencies that you need before entering the workforce.

The certificate is comprised of the Business Management Initiative, which is a very intensive 120-hour course that will be held for three-weeks in August 2008 (August 4-22, 2008). Students attend class from 8 am – 5 pm daily and learn the principles of accounting, finance, management and marketing. The course meetings are held at the Mays Business School and courses are taught by faculty in business. Students completing this course will be awarded a Business Management Certificate from the College of Engineering.

While several MBA programs across the country, such as Harvard’s, conduct similar rigorous preparation courses for their MBA programs, this initiative is truly unique in the undergraduate realm. Other undergraduate schools offer a business management experience, but they fall in the scope of completing a project to teach the business skills.

Benefits
  • Receive instruction of 120-hours, which is equivalent to approximately (3) three-credit hour courses (students will not receive course credit that could be applied towards a degree for completing this program)
  • Obtain in-depth instruction and participate in discussions and interactions in a class of 40 students
  • Acquire unique experience useful to you and future employers
  • Learn valuable business principles essential to a corporate environment
  • Receive a certificate after completion of the program (this program/course will not appear on the student's transcript)
