Business Management Certificate
for Engineering Students

[ List of All Engineering Certificate Programs ]

About the Program - Summer 2012

Graduating engineers from Texas A&M University receive instruction in technical skills. However, their business acumen as related to engineering endeavors is generally lacking. The Business Management Certificate addresses this need. Recognized by the College of Engineering, it is a highly intensive program intended to teach vital business competencies that you need before entering the workforce.

The certificate is comprised of the Business Management Initiative, which is a very intensive 120-hour course that will be held for three-weeks in August 2012 (August 6-24, 2012). Students attend class from 8 am – 5 pm daily and learn the principles of accounting, finance, management and marketing. The course meetings are held at the Mays Business School and courses are taught by faculty in business. Students completing this course will be awarded a Business Management Certificate from the Mays Business School Center for Executive Development.

While several MBA programs across the country, such as Harvard’s, conduct similar rigorous preparation courses for their MBA programs, this initiative is truly unique in the undergraduate realm. Other undergraduate schools offer a business management experience, but they fall in the scope of completing a project to teach the business skills.

Benefits
  • Receive 120-hours of in-depth instruction in business principles which is equivalent to approximately (3) three-credit hour courses (students do not receive course credit)
  • Acquire unique experience of applying business principles to their technical discipline, which is beneficial to themselves and employers
  • Learn valuable business principles essential to a corporate environment
  • Receive a certificate after completion of the program (this program/course will not appear on the student's transcript)
Eligibility

Current TAMU engineering students with junior, senior or graduate level classification are eligible to apply for the Business Management Certificate Program for Engineering Students. Class attendance is mandatory and you must attend every session to successfully complete the program.

Cost

The actual cost of the program is more than $1,000/student. However, the generous support of Halliburton and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company will allow us to offer the 2012 BMC at the low cost of $600 per student with an enrollment of 50 students. Since space is limited we encourage students to apply early.
